WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the first day Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan:

"I join in wishing Muslims in Maryland, across America, and around the world an 'Eid Mubarak’ – a blessed and joyous festival.  After a month of prayer and reflection, Muslim families will gather with friends and neighbors to give thanks and mark the end of Ramadan.  But this year’s joy has been tempered by the bitterness of violence and the murder of innocents by terrorists in Istanbul, Dhaka, Baghdad, and – most unconscionably – in Medina, timed by those who pervert the meaning of Islam to coincide with Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.  As we mourn those who lost their lives and keep in our thoughts those who were injured, let us remain strongly committed together to the work of peace and justice in our country and throughout the world.”
