Hoyer Statement on Departure of Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel

“I join in thanking Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel for his service to our nation.  Under his watch, our military has continued to tackle threats to our national security and to the security of our allies while adjusting to new budget realities and becoming a nimbler force.  The men and women serving in uniform looked to him as one of their own: a decorated combat veteran who understood the concerns and challenges facing those on the front lines.  I wish him, Lilibet, and their family well as he looks forward to the next phase of his career.  I hope the Senate will act swiftly to confirm his successor once the President makes his nomination.”
