WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the United Nations tribunal conviction of Ratko Mladić for war crimes and genocide for his role in the Srebrenica massacre:
“I welcome the conviction of Ratko Mladić. As a former Chairman of the Helsinki Commission, I have waited years to see justice served in this case. His conviction is a small comfort to the families of those who were brutally murdered on Mladić’s orders, and nothing can ever truly right this wrong. Nonetheless, this conviction is important, and I hope that it will spur the international community to pursue vigorously other human rights and war crimes cases that remain outstanding.”
