Hoyer Statement on the Convening of the 114th Congress

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the 114th Congress convened:  

"Today, the 114th Congress of the United States convened, providing the House with a new opportunity to address the challenges we face together. Many are tired of gridlock and dysfunction. Too many items of important business were left unfinished by previous Congresses. 

"The Senators and Representatives who gather in the Capitol today have a responsibility over the next two years to work together in a bipartisan way and take the tough steps necessary to create jobs, make our economy more competitive, ensure equal access to opportunity and justice, and keep our communities safe. The American people deserve a Congress that is on their side, and House Democrats will continue to fight for policies that make the American Dream stronger and more attainable by all."
