WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Congresswoman Janice Hahn (D-CA) announced that she will be stepping down from Congress at the end of this term in order to run for a seat on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors:
“I’ve had the privilege of serving with Rep. Janice Hahn for the past four years, and, in addition to being a good friend, she has been an outstanding Member of the House Democratic Caucus. Throughout her time in office, she has shown tireless determination as a fighter on behalf of Southern California families, working hard to promote investment in stronger communities and expanded opportunities that grow a strong middle class.
“In Congress, Janice made a name for herself as an advocate for revitalizing infrastructure, sponsoring the Bridge to Jobs Act, which was included as part of the Make It In America plan to grow our manufacturing sector and create well paying jobs. She has also spoken out in favor of policies that help small businesses expand and hire for jobs that won’t be shipped overseas. Janice has fought for clean air and water, a better education for our children, and affordable health care for Californians.
“Janice’s love of service is evident to all who know her, and while I am sad to see her leave Washington, I know she will continue to be a leader for Los Angeles for a long time to come. I join in wishing her all the best as she prepares to take the next step in her journey of public service.”
