WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today commemorating Cinco de Mayo:
“Today we celebrate Cinco de Mayo, a holiday inspired by the story of the brave Mexican fighters at the Battle of Puebla 149 years ago. It is also a day to honor the contributions made to this country by Mexican-Americans and by all of those in the Latino community. Latinos are the fastest-growing minority group in the United States, and in all fields their hard work is essential to our success."
“As we mark this occasion, may we be inspired by those who took a brave stand so many years ago to fight for those most universal of values: liberty and self-determination. And on this day, we honor the contributions immigrants have made to this country, enriching our shores and strengthening our union.”
