WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on the Congressional Budget Office (CBO)'s Budget and Economic Outlook, released today:

“The annual Budget and Economic Outlook released today by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office shows us how far we have come toward restoring fiscal discipline and strengthening our economy, while also reminding us that more work remains ahead. Importantly, it makes clear that the best way forward is a big and balanced solution that sets us on a sound path for the future.

“The challenges posed to our economy by deficits will not be overcome by ignoring the need for job creation, or by taking a severely imbalanced approach to deficit reduction. Neither will it be solved by a Congress that wastes time on messaging bills and political games. It is up to Congress to get to work right away on a solution that is balanced and that achieves the savings this new CBO outlook shows us are needed. I hope House Republicans will see its release today as an opportunity to set politics aside and work with Democrats to make the tough choices necessary.”
