WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Republicans passed their bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act through the House Budget Committee:
“The vote this morning in the Budget Committee underscores how divided Republicans are on their own disastrous repeal bill, which would force Americans to pay more for less. Democrats will continue to do everything in our power to cast a light upon the opaque process through which Republican leaders have been trying to ram their bill through the House without transparency or any public hearings. In addition to holding our own hearing this morning on the impacts of the Republican repeal bill, which include 24 million Americans losing their health coverage and out-of-pocket costs skyrocketing for millions more, we will keep demanding that Republicans postpone action on the House Floor until the American people have had a chance to weigh in.
“This is legislation that will have a significant impact on every American and on the many small businesses that will lose tax credits helping them cover their employees. Republicans are trying to speed it through Congress and to enactment because they know Americans will be outraged when they find out what’s included, as many already are. I urge Republican leaders not to bring this bill to the Floor next week.”
