Hoyer Statement on April Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Department of Labor released its jobs report for April: 

“The April jobs report shows that we are well positioned to take advantage of the successes of the recovery and build a stronger, more competitive future – if only Congress would focus on jobs and opportunity.  The 194,000 private sector jobs created last month reflect the resilience of our workers and businesses.  But we must do better, and the uncertainty sown by President Trump and Congressional Republicans will deter businesses from investing here and creating jobs in our country. 

“House Democrats have a Make It In America plan to create good jobs and make sure those jobs bring opportunity to our workers.  If President Trump and Republicans really want to get serious about creating jobs, we’re ready to work with them to advance this agenda and pass comprehensive tax reform that not only makes American businesses more competitive globally and spurs entrepreneurship, but allows more of our people to feel the benefits of a growing economy and work their way into the middle class.
