Hoyer Statement on 2018 House Floor Schedule
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) issued the following statement today after the House legislative schedule for calendar year 2018 was released:
“Today, House Republicans released the legislative schedule for 2018. It is my hope that they will use our limited time in session next year in a more productive manner than they have this year. Republicans have wasted this year on failed attempt after failed attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act – a goal that the American people do not share. As a result, they have not achieved any real accomplishments for the people we represent. Congress still needs to fund the government for the remainder of the fiscal year, provide assistance to our fellow citizens recovering from natural disasters, protect DREAMers, and act to stabilize health insurance markets that have been harmed by Republicans’ sabotage efforts. Instead, with only a few weeks left in session, House Republicans are pursuing a partisan tax bill to give massive tax cuts to the wealthy while raising taxes on the middle class and exploding the deficit.
“Next year, House Republicans should choose to work with Democrats rather than continuing to pursue everything in a partisan fashion, which has only exposed their deep divisions and mired the House in chaos and dysfunction. The House needs to take action on the issues Americans care about, including promoting economic growth and job creation so that all of our people can Make It In America.”
