WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on legislation House Republicans brought to the Floor this week to distract from their actions that have raised health care costs and kicked Americans off of their coverage:
“The health care bills Republicans brought to the Floor this week are an attempt to distract from their ongoing efforts to take health care coverage away from millions of Americans and pursue policies that raise costs. Not only are these bills fiscally irresponsible, they will also do nothing to mitigate Republicans’ efforts to sabotage our nation’s health care system and make those with pre-existing conditions uninsurable.
“Make no mistake: these are political messaging bills meant to obfuscate Republicans’ gross irresponsibility when it comes to health care policy. Our people deserve better, and Democrats are determined to protect America’s health care system and hold Republicans accountable for their actions to undermine the Affordable Care Act to the detriment of millions of Americans.”
