WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after House Republicans passed H.R. 1732, a partisan messaging bill that undermines clean water protections:

“Once again, House Republicans have wasted time messaging to their base instead of working in a bipartisan way to enact commonsense legislation tackling America’s serious challenges.  The bill they passed today would undermine the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to safeguard our nation’s lakes and waterways and keep them clean from pollution, and it unnecessarily interferes with a federal rule-making process that is already open, transparent, and responsive to the concerns of stakeholders.  Conserving America’s waters and wetlands is a responsibility we inherited from previous generations and one that we owe to the generations that will follow.”
