WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after a study was released by the Urban Institute detailing the damaging consequences of repealing the Affordable Care Act:
“Repealing the Affordable Care Act – as Republican leaders in Congress have committed to doing in January of next year – would be a disaster for our country. According to a study released today by the Urban Institute, 30 million Americans would lose their health insurance coverage following a repeal of the law. Republicans need to recognize that repealing health care reform without simultaneously passing a comprehensive replacement would have serious, immediate harmful effects on insurance markets and double the number of uninsured in our country. It would be devastating to our economy and tens of millions of hardworking Americans. House Democrats will continue to stand up for the millions of Americans who would lose coverage, benefits, and consumer protections if Republicans were to follow through with their partisan, irresponsible plans – as well as for all those in our country who have benefitted.”
