Hoyer: Reject Amendments to Undermine the Export-Import Bank

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) spoke on the House Floor today in opposition to amendments to the highway bill that would harm efforts to reopen the Export-Import Bank. Below is a transcript of his remarks and a link to the video:

“This is a bill about jobs. The amendment is about killing jobs… Every one of these amendments will undermine the Export-Import Bank that got 313 votes on this Floor. And the gentleman mentions five businesses – what he didn't mention is the thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of jobs that they create and maintain. That's what we're talking about – jobs for average Americans, whether they work for large, medium, or small businesses. We're talking about jobs for Americans. And here you are at the last minute trying to kill [efforts to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank]. You had two and a half years to offer your amendments. You had two and a half years to bring [a] bill to the Floor. You chose not to because the minority was going to kill this bill. And I told your Majority Leader over and over and over again, it had the majority of your party, and you refused to bring it to this Floor. Tonight is the time to say, the majority rules, the 313 [Members that voted for the Export-Import Bank] will rule. Reject every one of these amendments and let's create jobs with the Export-Import Bank.”
