WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) issued the following report, outlining the discussions held at the Second Congressional Hackathon. The event brought together a bipartisan group of Members of Congress, Congressional staffers, government transparency advocates, and digital innovators to explore the connections between legislative data, constituent correspondence, and digital tools.

Our second Congressional Hackathon wasa great success,” said Democratic Whip Hoyer. “I was impressed with the community of participants from both inside and outside the Legislative Branch who volunteered their time to help modernize the institution of Congress. I remain committed to continuing the work of making Congress more effective, efficient, and transparent by utilizing the latest digital tools. This report presents many substantive ideas—both large and small—on how to further our efforts to do so. I am confident that, as we did with many of the suggestions from the first Congressional Hackathon report, we will implement many of these new ideas.

Majority Leader McCarthy stated, "We are dedicated to making the activities of this Congress effective, efficient and accountable - all of which are achievable through technology. We need to modernize Congress, by leveraging technology to build stronger connections between constituents and their elected officials. This report continues a bipartisan conversation on how to achieve critical institutional reforms, on behalf of the people we represent."
