MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP

I am pleased to announce the launch of my new app, “Whip Watch,” which is now available for iOS and can be downloaded for free directly on any iPhone or iPad in the iTunes app store. “Whip Watch” will help make the House more transparent and accessible by providing users with real time updates on what’s happening on the Floor. Additionally, the app includes access to the House calendar, press updates from my office, and job openings in House Democratic offices. I encourage you to download “Whip Watch” for free today to access these functions, many of which are newly available to the public.

With less than two legislative weeks left to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank, House Republican leaders refuse to put a bill on the Floor for a vote. A clear bipartisan majority of the House supports a long-term reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank, which provides small and medium-sized American businesses with critical financing assistance they need to compete in the global marketplace. I join Republicans in the House and the Senate and the business community in urging Speaker Boehner to do as he has promised and allow the House to work its will so we can reauthorize the Bank’s charter before June 30 and ensure American businesses are not at a disadvantage and can compete on a level playing field with global competitors.

This week, the House voted on Trade Adjustment Assistance and Trade Promotion Authority. While I voted in support of Trade Adjustment Assistance to help American workers who have experienced hardships as a result of globalization, I could not vote for Trade Promotion Authority. While I believe we should judge trade bills individually, when we consider Trade Promotion Authority, which sets the stage for how we approach trade policy, we also need to consider other factors that contribute to our economic growth and ensure workers have the resources they need to benefit from trade agreements. American workers expect us to work together to enact policies that strengthen our competitiveness, such as long-term reauthorization of the highway bill and the Export-Import Bank and investments in education, skills training, and innovation. House Democrats will continue to pursue these policies, and I hope both parties can work together to forge a compromise on trade policies that help more workers achieve the American Dream.

Sincerely yours,

P.S. Please invite your friends and family to sign up for this newsletter to learn about what House Democrats are doing to lead America in a new direction. You can also get the latest updates and join the conversation on my FacebookTwitter, and Instagram accounts.
