WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer released the following statement today after he joined in submitting an amicus brief in support of President Obama’s executive actions on immigration. The brief, which was signed by 225 Democratic Members of Congress, can be read here:
"I'm proud to be a signatory of this amicus brief, along with 224 of my House and Senate Democratic colleagues. President Obama acted within his legal authority when he implemented DAPA and expanded the DACA program to keep immigrant families together, and I am confident that the Supreme Court will reach that same conclusion.
"The President's actions were the direct result of the Republican-led House's failure to address our nation's immigration challenges. Speaker Ryan's decision that the House will not take up comprehensive immigration reform in 2016 is further evidence of why the President's actions were warranted. I will continue to work with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, and other groups to push for Congress to act on comprehensive immigration reform that keeps families together, creates an earned pathway to citizenship, and grows our economy by helping us attract and retain talented innovators and entrepreneurs."
