WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in response to reports that Attorney General Jeff Sessions made false statements about interactions with Russian officials during his confirmation hearings:

"Reports that Attorney General Sessions made false statements to the Senate while under oath during his confirmation hearings and met in secret with Russian officials during the campaign, if indeed true, demand his immediate resignation. If Mr. Sessions does not resign, the President must make clear that his actions are unacceptable and fire him. This news makes it even more imperative that an independent commission be established to investigate Russian interference and the Trump Administration and campaign’s ties to Russia."
