WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on House Republicans' fake “jobs”  and “energy” packages being debated on the House Floor, which contain bills that were already passed and have no chance of being signed into law:

“On their last day of session before the November election, House Republicans brought to the Floor exactly the same kind of partisan messaging bills that they have wasted time on throughout the 113th Congress.  The legislation on the Floor today purports to create jobs, but in reality these bills will not spur job creation and are a repackaging of partisan measures the House has already passed. These bills would balloon our deficits and debt by more than half a trillion dollars while giving special allowances to corporate polluters, letting them ignore clean air and clean water rules and extract our nation’s natural resources in an irresponsible way.

“The American people do not want their Congress focused on partisan messaging bills that lead to gridlock and tell middle-class families and those out of work that they’re on their own.  They want a Congress that is on their side – one that will work tirelessly to advance real jobs legislation like Make It In America bills to help manufacturers expand and hire for jobs that pay well and open doors to opportunity.  They want a Congress that will raise the minimum wage, ensure equal pay for equal work, protect our environment while expanding economic opportunity, and provide more affordable access to education to help a new generation of skilled workers compete for twenty-first century jobs.  That’s what House Democrats are fighting for this Fall, in sharp contrast with the partisan priorities of House Republicans.”
