WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today congratulating Rep. Linda Sánchez on her election as the next Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), as well as Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham, Rep. Joaquin Castro, and Rep.-Elect Ruben Gallego on their new leadership positions within the CHC for the 114th Congress:
“I join in congratulating Rep. Linda Sánchez on her election as the next Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and I thank outgoing Chair Rubén Hinojosa for his service and leadership. The CHC continues to play a central role in shaping policy and advocating for greater opportunities for Latino families and for all Americans, and I am proud to work closely with its leaders and Members to advance these goals in Congress. Rep. Sánchez is a skilled legislator who works tirelessly on behalf of the people of California’s 38th District, and she has ably served as a Vice Chair of the CHC for the 113th Congress. She will be an effective and energetic leader for the CHC at a time when it is taking on an ever-increasing role in pushing for more affordable education, equal opportunity, and comprehensive reform to repair our broken immigration system.
“I also offer my congratulations to newly elected 1st Vice Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham, 2nd Vice Chair Joaquin Castro, and Whip Ruben Gallego, who will also serve as leaders for the CHC in the 114th Congress. All of them are incredibly capable and hard-working young Members who will enhance the work of the CHC as it addresses the challenges facing Latino communities across the country.”
