WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) today announced the hiring of Charlene MacDonald to serve as Senior Policy Advisor in the Democratic Whip’s office.
“I am glad to welcome Charlene to my policy team,” said Whip Hoyer. “Her strong background in healthcare policy and in the legislative process will enhance the work of House Democrats as we seek new ways to help more Americans access affordable and quality care and defend against Republican attempts to take away the patient protections and benefits of the Affordable Care Act. Charlene’s experience both on and off Capitol Hill on issues relating to Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act make her a great asset for the Whip’s office as we begin the 114th Congress.”
Charlene MacDonald previously served as Senior Policy Advisor for Medicare and Social Security for the Senate Budget Committee. Prior to that, she was Deputy Chief of Staff to Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-PA), where she oversaw the Congresswoman’s Congressional Health Care Innovation Task Force and the New Democrat Coalition’s Health Care Task Force. Charlene earlier served as Vice President of Government Relations for the American Clinical Laboratory Association and was Senior Congressional Lobbyist for the American Osteopathic Association. She holds an undergraduate degree in political science and sociology from Lake Forest College and a Master of Public Policy degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
