WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Treasury Department and Department of Health and Human Services released new data that highlights how the Affordable Care Act has helped entrepreneurs and small business owners:
“The data released today makes it clear that the Affordable Care Act is helping encourage entrepreneurship and making it easier for people to start small businesses and create jobs in our communities. With small businesses owners or self-employed individuals constituting one in five consumers in the health insurance marketplaces and nearly three times as likely than other individuals to purchase coverage through the marketplaces, these marketplaces have become a critical tool to ensure that innovators and entrepreneurs can pursue their careers without fear of going uninsured or going broke to pay for health care. If Republicans continue to insist on repealing the Affordable Care Act without an immediate replacement that achieves at least the same successes, they will have to explain to 1.4 million small business owners and self-employed entrepreneurs why they will have to lose this important tool that helps them contribute to growing our economy.”
