House Democrats Urge Bipartisan Action on Time-Sensitive Issues, Open Enrollment Through HealthCare.Gov Begins Today
MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP
As Congress returned to session this week, there are a number of time-sensitive issues still awaiting action. Upcoming expirations and deadlines provide the House with a critical opportunity to put productive policymaking ahead of partisan politics in order to get things done. With only a few legislative weeks remaining before the House is scheduled to adjourn for the year, we still need to reach a bipartisan agreement to fund the government, pass a defense authorization bill to strengthen our national security, reauthorize the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act to ensure economic stability, and address a number of expired tax provisions that affect families and small businesses. All of these issues have bipartisan support, and House Republican leaders should work with Democrats in order to address them.
The American people have made it clear that they are tired of Congressional gridlock and dysfunction and want both parties to work together on the issues that matter most. In addition to the time-sensitive priorities mentioned above, the majority of Americans also want to see Congress take action to create jobs, expand economic opportunity, and fix our nation’s broken immigration system. I am hopeful that my Republican colleagues in the House will cooperate with House Democrats on these issues so that we can better serve those we represent and end the gridlock.
I’d also like to remind Americans that open enrollment for health insurance through the federal Health Insurance Marketplace begins today. Americans will be able to shop for affordable health insurance plans and either renew their health care coverage or enroll for the first time. Starting today, those seeking coverage can visit www.healthcare.gov or call the Marketplace Call Center at (800) 318-2596 to learn more about coverage and eligibility for tax credits to help make coverage more affordable. The open enrollment period begins today and ends on February 15, 2015. In order to have coverage on January 1, 2015, you must sign up by December 15, 2014. To learn more, visit www.healthcare.gov.
Sincerely yours,
