A MESSAGE FROM THE MAJORITY LEADER

On Wednesday, Members of Congress heard directly from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked and unjustified war. I was deeply moved by President Zelenskyy’s words and the courage of the Ukrainian people as they defend not only their homeland, but democracy itself. House Democrats continue to stand firmly with our Ukrainian allies and took further steps this week to hold Vladimir Putin accountable for his immoral invasion of Ukraine, passing bipartisan legislation to suspend normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus for their roles in the invasion of Ukraine on Thursday. This legislation builds on a bipartisan measure I brought to the Floor last week which would ban imports of Russian oil, coal, and gas and reauthorize the Global Magnitsky Act, which enforces sanctions on those who violate human rights and engage in corruption. I continue to monitor the situation in Ukraine closely, and stand with the Ukrainian people as they bravely fight back against the Murderer of Moscow.

In addition, this week, the House took action on legislative priorities For The People, passing the FAIR Act, which protects consumers by eliminating forced-arbitration clauses that prevent due process on Thursday. Today, I brought the CROWN Act to the Floor, where it passed with bipartisan support. This legislation prohibits discrimination based on hair texture or style, which disproportionately impacts Black women in America. I was glad to support this bill, which will ensure Americans are not precluded from reaching their full economic or educational potential based on hair discrimination.

I look forward to a productive district work period continuing House Democrats’ work to build a better — and stronger — America For The People.

Sincerely yours,

Steny H. Hoyer
