House Democrats Put Middle Class First, House Republicans Pursue Partisanship

MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP

This week, the House of Representatives acted in a bipartisan way to keep our government open and to protect our national security and defend our interests overseas. Congress voted to support the President’s strategy to confront the terrorist group ISIL by approving his request to train and equip moderate Syrian opposition, so that they can prevent ISIL from spreading in the Middle East and threatening Americans here at home.

Unfortunately, House Republicans decided to leave Washington yesterday and cancel the days the House was scheduled to meet before the November election. This is yet another example of House Republicans’ pattern of obstruction and inaction. Their refusal to address critical legislative priorities, including creating jobs, raising the minimum wage, securing equal pay for equal work, and fixing our nation’s broken immigration system, sends the message to the American people that “you’re on your own.”

Americans deserve more from their representatives in Congress. That is why House Democrats’ Middle Class Jumpstart agenda is focused on spurring job creation and expanding economic opportunity for all. By working to bring jobs home through the Make It In America plan, ensure equal pay for equal work, and make quality education more affordable and accessible, House Democrats are committed to putting the middle class first.  While House Republicans continue to pander to the extremewing of their party and ignore the issues that matter most, House Democrats tell the American people “we’re on your side.”
