GOP's Ex-Im Hearing Witness: Failure to Reauthorize Ex-Im Would Be "Devastating"

As GOP leadership continues to refuse to put a bill on the Floor to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank before the June 30 deadline, we wanted to make sure you saw that Chairman Hensarling’s own witness at the Financial Services Committee hearing last week, Rachael Cox, doesn’t even agree with his position that the Ex-Im Bank should close. Here’s a look at her warning for Ex-Im opponents after they attempted to characterize her testimony inaccurately:

“The committee and Americans for Prosperity characterized Cox’ testimony as criticism of the bank, but Cox stressed after the hearing that she doesn’t oppose the bank. She said the committee invited her to speak about what it’s like for a small business to export without using the bank.

“‘I am a small-government advocate, but the fact is that there are a lot of small businesses and large businesses that need the bank right now, and to pull that rug out from under them would be devastating. There’s too many people relying on it,’ [Cox said].”
