GOP Admits the Real Shutdown Threat Is GOP Infighting

The government shuts down in two days and Republicans are deeply divided on a path forward. While President Trump is pointing fingers, we’d like to remind him that Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House and are responsible for keeping government open. Politico outlines the current division and dysfunction of the GOP. Take a look at the highlights here:

Republicans are scrambling to avert a government shutdown Friday, with President Donald Trump blaming Democrats even as GOP infighting grows.”

“Trump on Wednesday said a government shutdown ‘could happen,’ and lashed out at Democrats' immigration demands as a stumbling block in spending negotiations.”

“…But the bigger problem is that Republicans can’t agree among themselves. While GOP leaders and conservatives say they are both eager to avoid a ‘distraction’ that might derail tax reform legislation, they're still struggling to reach a truce to avoid a government shutdown.”

“House Freedom Caucus leaders emerged from a closed-door meeting with Speaker Paul Ryan Wednesday morning — their second in two days — saying no deal has been reached.”
