While Mitch McConnell continues to insist that Republicans have no hand in governing responsibly and addressing the debt limit to ensure America can pay its bills, we wanted to remind everyone again that Democrats helped Republicans pass debt limit suspensions in 2017 and 2018, while Republicans had unified control of the government. McConnell’s refusal to do so now is not just an abdication of responsibility, it is a direct threat to the financial livelihood of workers and families across the country that could cost Americans “up to 6 million jobs, $15 trillion in household wealth, and a 4% increase in the unemployment rate.” Recklessness, to say the least.
