FACT CHECK: Chairman Brady's Opening Remarks

There were a number of dubious claims made during Chairman Brady’s opening remarks this morning; we’ll point out just two of the biggest whoppers below:

WHAT HE SAID: “As President Trump said in his address to Congress last week, ‘Obamacare is collapsing,’ and ‘decisive action must be taken to protect all Americans.’ This morning, we will answer President Trump’s call to action, and we will send a clear message to all who are hurting because of this law. That message is: Relief is on the way.”

REALITY: The Affordable Care Act is working – 20 million Americans have gained coverage, the uninsured rate is at a historic low, and millions of families are benefiting from patient protections. However, the steps taken by Republicans to sow uncertainty and destabilize our health care system could drive up premiums and cause insurers to potentially drop out of the market. Don’t let Republicans fool you: they own the health care system and they are responsible for higher costs and loss of coverage.

WHAT HE SAID: “And, we are fulfilling these promises in a very transparent and thoughtful manner.”

REALITY: Republicans have held no hearings on the bill and a CBO estimate won’t be available until next week. As a reminder, here’s how the process for considering the ACA and the (non-existent) process for considering this bill compare:
