MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP

Two weeks from today, the Department of HomelandSecurity will run out of funding. Every Democrat in the House has cosponsoring a clean funding bill that would prevent this from happening by providing the DHS with the resources it needs to ensure the safety and security of our families and communities. House Republicans have voted twice against this bill to keep DHS open. I will continue to urge my Republican colleagues to stop holding our national security hostage to their political games as we approach the February 27 funding deadline.

This week, House Republicans passed two unpaid-for, piecemeal tax extender bills that add $93 billion to the deficit and undermine the prospect of comprehensive tax reform. Tax reform is an issue where we can reach bipartisan agreement, and we ought to be working across the aisle to reform our tax code to make it more competitive and provide American families and businesses with much-needed certainty. I will continue to urge House Republican leaders to make the hard choices needed to enact a comprehensive proposal to reform our tax system.

The open enrollment deadline for health care coverage for 2015 is this Sunday, February 15. With only two days left to explore your options for quality, affordable health insurance, I urge you to visit healthcare.gov or call the Marketplace Call Center at (800) 318-2596 without delay. Over ten million Americans have already signed up for coverage for 2015, and it is not too late for you to do the same and get covered.

Sincerely yours,

P.S. Please invite your friends and family to sign up for this newsletter to learn about what House Democrats are doing to lead America in a new direction. You can also get the latest updates and join the conversation on my Facebook and Twitter accounts.
