Democrats Stand Ready to Work With Republicans to Improve Health Care for the American People

MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP
Following the collapse of Republicans’ TrumpCare bill, Democrats stand ready to work with Republicans to improve the Affordable Care Act and ensure access to quality, affordable health care for all Americans. I was deeply disappointed by the Speaker’s comments this week that the President should not work with Democrats on health care. Republicans control the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives – they are the governing party and will be responsible for anything that happens to our health care system on their watch. I urge them to take repeal off the table, stop sabotaging the ACA, and work with Democrats to improve health care.
I remain alarmed by recent reports about House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes’ actions last week. By reviewing intelligence provided by the White House, sharing this information with the President, and refusing to provide the information to members of his committee, Rep. Nunes has undermined the credibility of the House Intelligence Committee's investigation on Russia. Rep. Nunes ought to recuse himself from the investigation, and his actions underscore the need for an independent commission to review Russia’s interference in our elections and the extent of connections between the Trump campaign and Russia. The American people deserve answers, and House Republicans should put country before party in this process.
In addition, Congress now has only eight legislative days to fund the government before the current continuing resolution expires on April 28. With such little time left, Republicans have yet to indicate what legislation they will bring to the House Floor. Republicans have never been able to fund the government without Democratic votes, so we will need to work in a bipartisan way to fund the government and avert a government shutdown.
