Democrats Call On Republicans to Cut and Compromise on Spending; Committed to Helping American Families Affected By Foreclosure Crisis
MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP
Also this week, House Republicans voted to terminate two important programs that help responsible American families stay in their homes. While more needs to be done to address the foreclosure crisis, Republicans have decided to end these programs without offering any new solutions to help those who have been affected. In addition to having no plan to help these families stay in their homes, Republicans are not putting forward serious plans to address jobs, reduce the deficit or improve health care.
Next week, Republicans are bringing a bill to the Floor that will fund the government for three weeks. We cannot keep funding the government on a week-by-week basis. It wastes taxpayer money, is disruptive and creates uncertainty for both the public and private sector. Republicans must work with us on a long-term measure that cuts spending, invests in our future, and provides certainty.
