Complete Consideration of H.R. 5781 – California Emergency Drought Relief Act of 2014 (Rep. Valadao – Natural Resources). This bill would create a number of directives for the federal agencies that manage California’s Central Valley water project. The bill is aimed at increasing the availability of water for the state’s agricultural, municipal and industrial users, by requiring that more water is pumped south to users in the San Joaquin Valley. The bill would also require the Interior and Commerce departments to approve any emergency projects or operations that would quickly provide additional water to users in the San Joaquin Valley.
The Rule, which was adopted on December 4, provides for no further debate. Today, the House will vote on the motion to recommit and passage of H.R. 5781.

“Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), a frequent foe of big business who chairs the Financial Services Committee, is trying to use the negotiations over renewing the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act to enact changes to Dodd-Frank, the 2010 banking regulation law Republicans have tried to dismantle... Democrats point out that Hensarling is standing on shifty ground. Ninety-three senators voted to pass TRIA in July without the changes to Dodd-Frank. Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.), Mike Lee (Utah) and Ted Cruz (Texas) all supported that bill.” - Politico, 12/8/2014 |
