At the Time This Daily Dose Was Sent, Insured Americans Had Paid a “Hidden Tax” of $51,534,969,862 since January 1, 2009 in Additional Premium Costs to Cover Care for the Uninsured. Under the Microscope HEALTH INSURANCE REFORM PICKING UP House Democrats caucused today to walk through proposed improvements to the Senate bill, most of which are outlined in the President’s plan released in late February. Also today, the Members of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus went to the White House to discuss health insurance reform with President Obama. POLLS PICKING UP A March 9th memo by Democracy Corps detail recent polls showing support for health insurance reform steadily rising since January 19th. For example, this week a poll by The Economist and YouGov showed a majority supporting reform’s passage for the first time since December. Of course, Americans have consistently indicated significant support for big ticket items in the reform bills. This echoes yesterday’s Daily Dose, which had an article about a new Associated Press-GfK poll showing more people in support of Congress getting reform done than starting from scratch. TODAY’S HEALTH REFORM NUMBER: 625 In 2009, every hour 625 people lost their health insurance. How many more Americans need to lose their covergae before Congress will reform health insurance?
