MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP

With just seven days until the end of the fiscal year, it is imperative that Congress pass a bill to prevent a government shutdown. So far, Republicans have presented a bill with unacceptable provisions that Democrats cannot support. As negotiations continue, I urge Republican leaders to work with us to pass a bipartisan bill that can be signed into law. We must keep the government open and working for Americans, and we must provide emergency funding to combat the Zika virus, which is already infecting Americans.

This week, the House passed the bipartisan Modernizing Government Technology Act, which included my legislation to authorize the creation of an Information Technology Modernization Fund. The fund, which I announced in July as part of the “Renewing Faith in Government” agenda, aims to modernize government technology by making it more efficient, transparent, and secure. I’m pleased this bipartisan legislation will now move to the Senate for consideration. I will continue to pursue additional ideas House Democrats have put forward to renew the American people’s faith that their government can work effectively and get things done. For a summary of those ideas, click here

Sincerely yours,

Steny H. Hoyer
