The Hill: GOP members urge reauthorizing terrorism insurance
It’s been nearly five months since the Senate passed a multi-year extension of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act by a strong bipartisan vote of 93-4, yet House Republican leaders still haven’t brought legislation to the Floor, despite our urging. If they won’t listen to us, we hope they’ll listen to Members of their own conference:
“Forty-five House Republicans are urging House leadership to pass a long-term terrorism insurance (TRIA) reauthorization.”
“Congress must vote to reauthorize TRIA by the end of the year or the program shuts down.”
“‘We respectfully urge you to schedule action on a multi-year extension immediately,’ the lawmakers wrote in the letter sent to House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Monday obtained first by The Hill.”
“…[The] business community is balking at [short-term TRIA extension]. And the 45 GOPers who signed [Rep.] Fincher's letter made that case to leadership.”
“‘Businesses with terrorism coverage are being told that their coverage will end if Congress fails to act, causing the sort of uncertainty that hurts economic growth,’ the lawmakers wrote.”
“Business groups, backed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, supports a seven-year TRIA reauthorization bill that the Senate passed in July on a 93-4 vote.”
With 45 Members of their own conference and the business community urging passage of TRIA, it’s time for GOP leadership to bring a bill to the Floor.
